To use ‘Sellotape’ or not to use ‘Sellotape’ that is the question!

Buying and selling books have become one of my passions. Often I have come across books that have had commercial sellotape (or sticky tape) used to mend tears in pages or the book in general is falling apart!
Not to get into the scientific reasons why sellotape is bad, let’s just say that it sometimes cross links with fibres in the paper which in turn cause a chemical reaction. E.g discolouration of the paper and brittle.

I have come across a few blogs that explain in fuller detail why we should not use the ‘handy sellotape dispenser’ but perhaps have some acid free tape from a conservator outlet on hand.

If you get the chance try looking up www.westdean.org.uk blog.
