Description
I have for sale a very desirable book, Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H.Lawrence.
Whilst I was doing some research I saw that this would have been one of the first early ‘Pirate’ copies made, due to the suppression of the original publication and avoiding censorship in Britain at the time of its release in 1928.
This book looks the same as the original publication minus Lawrence’s signature and crest on the front cover.
This book was privately printed the same year, 1928 and numbered 948 out of 1500 copies.
The condition is good considering its age. There is some foxing on the inside and end papers, as well as on the edges of the paper. The paper is quite thick, but stitching is firm.
The boards have a few dents in and the top has been weakened by mis handling the book when taken off the shelf.
Inside there is an indentation of a previous owner of the book.
I have included a newspaper cutting about Lawrence that was loose in the book.
Please see photos.
I have tried to describe this book to the best of my ability. Please do not haste to contact me with any questions.
